This project evaluates the potential of a strategy aiming to enable men and women to better understand their personal risk of cancer and properly assess their preventive options.

Project summary

The 3PC Study is evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of a primary cancer prevention strategy, including an individualized action plan with support and follow-up. To take part in this study, you must: - Be 18 years of age and older; - Have no history of breast or prostate cancer, but have one or more risk factors.

Participants will be asked to complete two questionnaires, one at the beginning and one at the end of the study, six months later. All participants will have access to validated information materials on breast and prostate cancer prevention. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: the intervention group and the control group. Participants in the intervention group will also have access to a decision support tool and the option to obtain support to complete the tool.

The 3PC Study is being conducted by an interdisciplinary team of academic and clinical researchers who are committed to improving services and prevention options for these cancers, which remain the most common in the population. The principal investigator of this study is Professor Hermann Nabi, from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of Université Laval and researcher in the Oncology Division of the CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Center (CRCHUQ). The team also includes professors and researchers Michel Dorval, Dr. Jocelyne Chiquette, Caroline Diorio, Sophie Lauzier, Dr. Yves Fradet, Dr. Vincent Fradet, Josée Savard, Steve Bilodeau, Étienne Audet-Walsh from CRCHUQ and Université Laval and Dr. Jean-Sébastien Paquette affiliated with Université Laval. Finally, the team is completed by two patient partners, Ms. Madeleine Côté and Mr. Nelson Charrette, and two research professionals, Ms. Rachel Guérard and Ms. Julie Lapointe.
